I have a very beautiful large French 19th century barometer for auction. I know very little about this type of barometer so I will try to describe it as accurately as possible and I am sure there will be some questions. The barometer has finely reverse painted or verre eglomise glass panels with foil background and looks like some of the work is gold gilding. A real masterpiece of this type of skill. The border is six canted reverse painted panels in ripple molded frames. The center panel has a single hand that point to the reverse painted or gold gilt variations in barometric pressure, e.g. TEMPETE, VARIABLE BauTems etc. There are numerals around the painted dial also starting at the 12 o'clock position. These are: 28-4-8-29-27-4-8. The top piece features a thermometer attached from behind to another beautifully decorated reverse painted panel with the Celsius digits and Thermometre at the top in a ripple molded frame. There are Lyre shaped ears off to either side of the thermometer with beaded frame. The only damage I see to the piece is a repaired cracked area that is structurally sound on the lower portion of the right side ear. I have taken a close up of that is pictured. The thermometer is intact as is the mercury tube on the backside. I believe the barometer is complete and can be made functional but cannot guarantee. This is a large piece measuring 35 inches High by 21 inches Wide. It is a very fragile item that I will not ship and is for local pick up only. Thank you.
