Vintage Shoeshine Kit: The Real Thing, not a Reproduction
Primitive handmade shoeshine kit most likely dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. Original paint, hardware, hinges, cast iron foot rest with star design, and hook latch with star pattern. Includes “Two in One (Dos en Uno)” shoeshine brush and packet of polishing cloths.
Clever door design includes a wooden lip to keep shoe shining supplies in place and handy when open.
This is an unrestored, original, functional piece, NOT a reproduction or decorative piece made solely for display. It carries all the marks, scratches, rust, and patina from years of actual use.
The top piece reflects the frugality of its builder, as it is fashioned from a repurposed piece of wooden packing crate. Its stencil is still visible from the inside: “....A&P Tea Co., 140 Ferry St., New Haven Conn.”
Box measures 11 inches wide, by 7-3/4 inches deep, by 7 inches high.
Cast iron foot rest measures 3 inches high at its highest point, by 7-3/8 inches long, by 2-1/8 inches wide at top, and 4-5/8 inches wide at its base.
